How to Use Your Straightener as a Curling Iron

Curled hair is elegant and beautiful. If you have a straightening iron, you can easily create beautiful curls in minutes without having to buy an additional curling iron. Following these quick and easy steps, you can learn how to use your straightener as a curling iron.
First: Protect your hair
Spray your hair with a heat protector. This ensures that the heat does not damage your hair by making it frizzy. Make sure the heat protector is distributed evenly throughout your hair. Let it settle a bit and then comb through your hair before proceeding.
Second: Section your hair
Start at the top of your neck and clip all hair that is more than one inch from the nape of your neck up and out of the way. Work with this thin layer of hair to start. Take a small piece of this hair that is about 1 inch by 1 inch. How you proceed depends on the type of curl you want.
Third: Create flips
To make soft, flippy curls, start halfway down the piece of hair, close the iron and move toward the end with the iron turned in an outward position. The more dramatically you turn the iron, the larger the flips you get as a result.
Fourth: Create curls
Start close to the scalp and turn the iron outward as you slide it down to the half-way point along the hair strand. When you reach the half-way point, turn the iron even more. This creates a dramatic curl.
Fifth: Keep going
Move onto the next piece of hair and keep going until you have curled your whole head of hair. Spray each section with hairspray as you finish so that it stays in place.
